I think that this was one of those rare training courses that allows you to go into your office on Monday with what you have learned and do your job more effectively.

A variety of training programs are available on-site at your location. Programs are based on the ASME Y14.5M - 1994 and ASME Y14.5.1M 1994 American Standards. Courses include information on the ISO series of standards and the American National B89 metrology standards. The programs can be combined, expanded and tailored to meet the needs of the participants and will use customer parts and prints.
Hundreds of multi-colored computer animated graphics and video clips are used during the program. Wood and plastic models of parts and inspection equipment (CMM routines surface plate, angle pate, sine plate, V blocks, go/no go gages, height gage functional gages, etc.) are demonstrated in the presentation to provide the participant with a three dimensional practical learning experience.
The models help the participants to think and visualize the Cartesian coordinate system and 3D tolerance zones. This demonstration adds excitement into a rather dull subject. It helps the student to "see, hear and feel" the practical examples in 3D. The models allow the concepts to "come alive" and make the material fun and easy to learn. The courses incorporate loads of practical "hands on" student exercises. Telephone technical support is included with all the programs. Certificates of completion are awarded to all participants who successfully complete the program.

Training workbooks, pocket guides, materials and workshop problems are provided to all participants. The training workbook is programmed to follow along with the presentation. The workbook will serve as a valuable guide for future "on the job" reference. With the help of the group teams, a "Standard Practices Manual" can be developed to standardize procedures for tolerancing certain similar families of parts. This company manual can be used as a reference or for tolerancing future parts. The programs are tailored to meet the skill needs of the students. Participants are encouraged to bring parts and prints to class for discussion and evaluation.
Geometric Tolerancing On-Site Programs
Who Should Attend
- Anyone who needs to work with engineering drawings
- Product Engineering
- Suppliers
- Vendors
- Manufacturing Engineering
- Quality Control
- Tool Engineering
- Inspection, CMM & Layout
- Tool Makers
- CMM Programmers
- Production Engineering
- Purchasing
- Shop Floor
The candidates for the program are usually mixed from the various departments such as product engineering, manufacturing, quality, tooling, and production. The discussions allow each department an insight into the others operation. We work as a team, using geometric tolerancing to build quality, economical parts. The open discussion periods with a good mixture of people is highly beneficial.
Program Delivery and Length
The programs usually accommodate up to 25 participants. Every participant will receive a name tent and care is taken to address each participant individually. This, along with the limited class size, ensures that each participant receives personal and equal attention.
The lengths of the programs are flexible and can vary from 2 to 5 days depending on the program selected. Program delivery is flexible and can be adjusted to meet the needs. It can be conducted in consecutive workdays, a few evenings, or Saturdays.
The most popular concept is to deliver two 20 hour programs concurrently during the week. Program I runs for 4 hours per day in the morning, and Program II would run for 4 hours per day in the afternoon. This delivery format will not take everyone off the floor at the same time. If a person was to miss the morning class, they could always attend the afternoon.
Extra time is made available to meet with plant personnel, view facilities, and help with in-plant problems.
Training Workbooks
Training workbooks, pocket guides, materials and workshop problems are provided to all participants. Workbooks are programmed to follow along with the presentation. The pictures in the workbook correspond to the colored computer graphics and wood/plastic models. The workbook will serve as a valuable guide for future "on the job" reference. The smaller pocket guide contains the most important points to remember and necessary formulas.
Location and Facility Requirements
Programs can be conducted on the plant site or a suitable off site conference or training room large enough to accommodate 25 participants. The facility should contain an electronic projector that can be used with a computer and a large table up front and a white board. Seating for the participants should include a hard surface for writing notes and the workshop problems. Certificates of completion will be awarded to all participants who successfully complete the program.
