Features of size (such as holes, slots, tabs and pins) have size tolerance that allow them to be big or small within the tolerance limits. There is often a need to refer to a feature at a specific size limit. Maximum Material Condition (MMC) and Least Material Condition (LMC) are terms for the worst-case size limits of a hole, pin, slot, or width.
Maximum Material Condition (MMC) – The condition where the feature contains the maximum material within the stated limits of size. For example: the smallest hole or biggest pin.
Least Material Condition (LMC) – The condition where the feature contains the least material within the stated limits of size. For example: the smallest pin or biggest hole.
