Perpendicularity

  • Orientation Tolerance

Key Points

Perpendicularity is the condition of a surface, median plane, or axis oriented at 90˚ to the datum reference frame.

Example Drawing

Application

Two surfaces must be perpendicular when part is mounted on bottom surface.

How to Read It

Perpendicularity is a 3D tolerance and if applied to a plane surface, it also controls the flatness.

Sample Inspection

The part is mounted on datum feature A and the surface to be verified is leveled. The full indicator movement must not exceed 0.1 (max-min).
